Veteran marathon runner to face his fear of heights in world’s first Eyeathon on the London Eye.
On Tuesday 5th April 2011, veteran marathon runner Noel Bresland will attempt the world’s first Eyeathon, running 26.2 miles on a Life Fitness treadmill inside a capsule of the famous EDF Energy London Eye - where better than the EDF Energy London Eye, with its inspiring views of the city, to meet such immense challenges?
The event, which will raise funds for leading charities CHILDREN with LEUKAEMIA and Bliss, is part of Bresland’s attempt to complete 223 marathons over the next 10 years. He launched his 223 Challenge at the 2009 Virgin London Marathon after the death of his nephew Ethan, who lived for 223 days after being born 15 weeks prematurely weighing 1lb 10oz. Since the launch Bresland has completed 29 marathons.
Bresland will be running the Eyeathon on a treadmill donated by Life Fitness. Murray Rudkin, Life Fitness UK Country Manager says “We are delighted to support such an inspiring event and from all of us here at Life Fitness, we wish Noel the very best with his forthcoming challenge.”
Inspiration for the run came after last year’s London Marathon, when Bresland and his family visited the London Eye after the race and with the help and support of his employers Deloitte, the business advisory firm, plans were put in place for this ambitious challenge.
Bresland will be receiving expert with help and assistance from former Olympic modern pentathlete Professor Greg Whyte. Whyte, a world championship silver medallist, is well known for guiding David Walliams and Christine Blakely across the English Channel, coaching Eddie Izzard on his epic marathon challenge and previously coached Bresland in the lead up to his North Pole Marathon.
After completing the Eyeathon Bresland will begin preparations to run the Virgin London Marathon 12 days later dressed as Little Miss Naughty, as part of CHILDREN with LEUKAEMIA's Mr Men and Little Miss running team.
