Life Fitness -International Women's Day 2022

International Women's Day 2022

Here at Life Fitness, people are at the core of everything we do. So, to celebrate inspirational women for international women’s day, we asked the women in our UK team to share the things they love about fitness, wellbeing and working in the fitness industry. We hope this inspires you to take some time to celebrate Women today, and every day.

What our women have to say:

“I find exercise always boosts my mood as well as my physique, especially on the days when you are not quite feeling it! On those days where it takes a bit more effort – the rewards are greater.”

Christine Adams

Service Contracts Team Leader

I love everything that exercising does for me. It’s not just about the physical changes- that’s just an additional bonus.

I love the feeling I get after I’ve completed a workout.

I love celebrating of all the wins, big or small.

I love the feeling of accomplishment before my day has even begun (I exercise in the mornings before work).

Exercising lifts my mood, strengthens my spirit and sets me up for the day.

Torie Ford

HR Coordinator

“I love running as no run is ever the same, even if you run the same route. I love being out in the fresh air and it gives me precious headspace time away from the daily stresses

I try to keep active and eat healthily to be a good example to my children.  I hope that if they see me leading a healthy lifestyle they will be inspired to do the same themselves (when they stop being moody teenagers!)”

Gayle Tempest

Preventative Maintenance Scheduling Co-Ordinator

“Exercise and workouts help me work towards being a stronger, fitter person than I was yesterday. It’s such an important part of my life and every time I master a new skill or achieve a new PB I get a real endorphin hit! When you love what you do, it’s a pleasure, not a chore, to exercise and I love being able to help gyms kit out spaces with premium equipment to inspire others.”

Rebecca Knight

UK Marketing Specialist

“I love exercise as it helps with my overall wellbeing, from sleeping better to feeling stronger and having more energy. I also find it’s a great way to reduce stress.”

Nina Bayes

Sales Support Team Leader

"I love that the fitness industry is now more inclusive than ever. In the past, it seems to focus on cardiovascular training for women and fad diets to promote unhealthy body images. Now with the strong movement, further education and less intimidating environments, we have more women of all abilities, backgrounds, shapes, sizes, preferences and all walks of life participating in fitness."

Stacey Smith
Area Sales Manager- North

I personally enjoy healthy eating & exercising because I never feel ‘bad’ for doing those things. I never come out of a workout thinking I could’ve spent that hour doing something better. There’s been a lot of times where I’ve overindulged in snacks and wished I hadn’t done it, whether I was actively making healthier choices or not.

It’s all about encouraging a positive mental/physical wellbeing, and not one glove fits all with that.

Don’t get me wrong, my fitness levels can be much better than what they are, and I’m only just starting to make certain changes, but if I can encourage someone else to do the same then I’m already fulfilling what I’d set out to achieve.

I watched a video of a Firefighter giving advice to overthinkers, but it applies to much more than that. It was along the lines of this: Stop thinking about the end goal, end target, end game as that can make you feel overwhelmed. Instead start thinking about the next step and just take that. The rest will come.”

Nicola Moore

Order Fulfilment Executive

“Training means time to myself! Juggling a busy week with a young family means having time I can switch off and escape.”

Louise Pickering

Account Manager

“I love working in the fitness industry. It’s competitive and fast paced, so matches my personality quite well. I am so proud to work for a world class leading brand creating forward thinking and innovative fitness solutions.”

Clare Humphreys

Regional Account Manager (London)

“I love the fitness industry, because the strength of community that is created through working out is so strong. Over my years in this industry, I’ve seen women empower each other to reach new goals, whether that’s as a gym buddy cheering on or celebrating each other’s success. It is so important as women to celebrate each other and ourselves, and I feel that fitness communities create an environment to build each other up.”

Fiona Campbell

Marketing Coordinator

“I love fitness and wellbeing because it works on so many things, not only your physical body, but also really helps to keep the mind healthy too!”

Lisa New

Customer Support Advisor

“I love the challenge of training, and I love how it carries into other aspects of life too. Fitness can be done by all in some way shape or form, and the benefits can be lifechanging.”

Rebecca Mears

Digital Marketing Specialist SSC

“I’ve been with Life Fitness for 19 years and have always been proud of what our organisation does in the health and wellbeing space. Being part of this industry is much bigger than any one person or company and whilst our industry has organisations offering different solutions, we all have the ultimate goal around improving the lives of others. That is something that just makes you feel good to be a part of. I think we [Life Fitness] embrace the whole concept of wellbeing by encouraging walking, standing, running or anything else that gets you moving – it’s not just about our equipment. I particularly love that it’s ok to take a break and go for a walk or 30 mins in the gym or even an aqua class because we recognise the bigger picture when it comes to physical and mental employee wellbeing.”

Carolyne Hunt

HR Director, International Business Operations

As well as celebrating women, it is important to use International Women’s Day as a reminder to #BreakTheBias. We can all get involved by calling out bias, stereotypes and discrimination in everyday scenarios with colleagues and peers. Encouraging continued education helps to create ongoing change so we can get closer to a world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.

Happy International Women’s Day!
