Total Fitness collaborates with Life Fitness for multi-site upgrade

The new partnership will see Total Fitness transform its cardio and strength offering and introduce new functional training areas across its gyms.

Thursday 07 March, 2019 – Northern based full service health clubs, Total Fitness, has chosen Life Fitness to install new cardio and strength training equipment throughout key UK sites, as the company looks ambitiously at growth throughout 2019 and beyond.

Total Fitness has 17 health clubs across the North of England and Wales that provide a full service fitness offering. With a strong belief that true fitness needs variety, the large health clubs offer extensive gym floors, three swimming pools, over 70 classes a week, indoor running tracks, ladies only gyms and family facilities.

The upgraded cardio equipment will improve the gyms’ digital provision and the new training areas are being introduced in line with popular industry trends for group and functional training as well as HIIT, with the aim to boost Total Fitness’ offering to its broad member demographic.

“At Total Fitness we work hard to create a friendly, fully inclusive environment that matches the needs of all types of gym goers without paying a premium,” says Head of Marketing, Kerry Curtis.

Life Fitness Academy – the global training and education arm of Life Fitness - will provide programming and training for all gym staff as kit is introduced, to encourage members and personal trainers to utilise the new functional training areas to their maximum.

Ian Twitchen, Head of Product at Total Fitness, said: “We have really focused on investment in our clubs, with an aggressive and ambitious capital expenditure plan over a short space of time. We are directing this investment on developing programming, increasing engagement with members on the gym floor and equipment to ensure our facility can cater for the latest demands from our members. Life Fitness are a crucial partner and through services such as their Life Fitness Academy, our staff and processes are fully supported at all levels to deliver market leading quality training services.”

Premium equipment brand Hammer Strength has been chosen to integrate HD Athletic Power Racks, platforms and plate loaded equipment, alongside sectorised equipment from Life Fitness’ Insignia range, to expand the gyms’ strength training provision and create the optimal interaction between exerciser and equipment.

A key reason for Total Fitness’ choice in provider was based around Life Fitness’ premium Integrity Series treadmills. With its sleek design and intuitive Discover SE3 HD console, exercisers of all abilities will be able to utilise the latest in treadmill technology, which incorporates knee and joint stress-reducing systems, easy-to-follow workouts and extensive entertainment options.

Key sites will also house Life Fitness’s SYNRGY360 XL Mix Group training system. Designed to transform and inspire fitness experiences for a diverse range of users, the SYNRGY360 XL is made from modular units and provides facilities with near limitless options for building the optimal solution for its exercisers.

“We identified that our cardio equipment needed updating and the Integrity Series treadmills will transform our cardio and digital offering, whilst the SYNRGY360 and HD Athletic rigs make excellent use of available space and will enhance our group training and HIIT provision in line with what our members want,” says Ian Twitchen.

The installs, continuing into 2019, form phase one of the project with exciting plans to come for the future. Ian Twitchen comments, “Total Fitness are committed to keeping the member experience at the forefront of our decision making, with the right partner in Life Fitness and continued investment into our people and our product, we can take our member experience to the next level.”
